Almost Famous, by Zoey Dean, follows the lives of four wealthy, privileged Los Angeles girls as they begin 8th grade and, over the course of two weeks, learn about the vagaries of popularity and the harm that can be caused by unfeeling kids, including themselves.
The book opens with four girls gathered for a sleepover before their first day of 8th grade at Bel-Air Middle Schools or BAMS for short in Los Angeles. They are Mackenzie Little-Armstrong (called Mac), daughter of a major Hollywood talent agent, Evangelina Becks (called Becks), daughter of a former TV star, Coco Kingsley, daughter of a hotel mogul and a superstar singer, and Emily Mungler, an Iowa native who is living with Mac's family while pursuing an acting career.
