Summary

Christmas Eve was Yunjae's birthday. Every year they went out for dinner to celebrate. Yunjae did not see the point. That year, they really should not "have gone out" (25).

On the way to the restaurant, it started snowing for the first time in a decade. Mom and Granny were excited. The restaurant was closed, so they chose another. The food was bad, but Mom and Granny did not mind. After paying, Granny and Mom went outside in the snow while Yunjae waited for plum candies. Outside, “Mom and Granny were still all smiles" (26). Then people started screaming. A man in a suit appeared swinging a knife and a hammer. When he saw Granny and Mom he began violently beating Mom. Granny pressed herself against the window, trying to tell Yunjae something. Then the man attacked and killed Granny. Blood was everywhere. Yunjae watched...
