Yunior

Yunior is the narrator of the story and one of the two main characters. Yunior is a character that appears in many Junot Diaz stories. He is originally from the Dominican Republic, and his family immigrated to the United States when he was a child. In this story, Yunior attends Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He is dating a fellow student named Alma, and although he and Alma have many personal differences, Yunior finds himself highly physically attracted to Alma.

Yunior is interested in reading books and exercising. The basis of his relationship with Alma is their physical attraction to one another and their sexual activities. Yunior secretly has a sexual relationshp with a freshman student named Laxmi, and Alma discovers this by reading Yunior’s personal journal.
