Summary

Chapter 21

During a simulated 'attack drill' the next morning, Tris sees that Tobias is looking worn and pale, depressed. He grows angry and snaps at her when she says that the tests mean nothing. He says that he's a little more distraught over his father's verdict and accuses her of not understanding at all. Tris muses on the fact that without their factions and those rules, they all seem to have lost their sense of purpose.

Tris reads her mother's journal and learns that David asked her to insert herself into the Chicago project because the divergent were being murdered and they think that the killer is at Erudite headquarters. She agrees to go, explaining that she thinks it might be an easy thing since she's young enough not to have chosen a faction, yet. They'll place her in Dauntless because of her...
