Summary
Chapter eight begins with a very curious Chung determined to snoop around the house for information about her adoption. She finally finds an interesting business card for Kathy L. Sanderson, an attorney based in Seattle. Despite her uncertainty, she works up the courage to call Sanderson. Kathy was faithful to her parents’ wishes and refused to answer her questions unless urged by her parents to do so. Frustrated, Chung confronts her mother about Kathy, and was surprised to hear that her birth mother had actually attempted to get in contact with the family when she was much younger. Chung’s mother had not felt comfortable sharing photographs or detailed information about the family to Chung’s birth mother, and Chung was simultaneously shocked and angry about the casualness of her tone.
