Summary
The story unfolds with a younger Nicole Chung consulting her mother about her adoption. She asks typical questions such as, how could they give me up, to which she received clichéd yet comforting responses about how her birth parents loved her tremendously, but ultimately made a difficult yet selfless sacrifice to guarantee better opportunities for their daughter. Although Chung was only three years old, she knew that the response expected of her was to express her gratitude to her mother for her adoption.
