Kyle Lafferty

Kyle Lafferty has just graduated high school as the novel opens, and realizes his relationship with Kimberly is over, despite his continuing efforts to hold them together. Kyle is 18 years-old, but he is immature in some ways, especially regarding his relationship with Kimberly. When Kyle finally emerges from his coma and realizes the entire year he imagined with Marley was a dream prompted mostly by the stories she read to him, he realizes that he inserted events that led him toward the future he wants for himself. This includes a realistic look at his relationship with Kimberly and the understanding that he has spent a lot of time trying to stay together without considering what was wrong.
