Summary
Chapter 5 opens to the sound of Kimberly's voice. He rushes upstairs from his basement bedroom and eventually finds her on the couch, wrapped in “a fuzzy white blanket” (39). She disappears before he can reach the couch, and he spends the entire night watching for her. He continues to sit there every night until Lydia expresses her concern. Lydia says “I lost your father like this” (41). Kyle realizes he is worrying her and agrees to go to bed. Kyle waits awhile then goes to the living room where he finds Lydia sleeping on the couch. Kyle does go to bed then, but he thinks about his brain injury and the fact that he saw Kimberly even though she is dead. He worries that he might not be alright.
