Sneha
Sneha, the novel's protagonist, is an Indian-American woman who moves to Milwaukee in order to accept a job that she has secured there. Sneha struggles to build community in Milwaukee at the outset of the novel, in part because of her somewhat reserved personality and in part because she has a hard time opening up to others, particularly in a romantic context. She also manages to alienate herself from her closest friends, Thom and Tig, by continuing to espouse pro-capitalism viewpoints and disdaining each of them for making less money than she does, often using her own success as evidence that her friends ought to be capable of achieving that same level of success.
Things begin to change in Sneha's life when she successfully secures a date with Marina, a white woman whom she has been romantically pursuing for much of her time in Milwaukee, and the pair...
