Charon County, Virginia
All the Sinners Bleed primarily takes place in Charon County, Virginia. Cosby describes Charon as a largely rural space. Although many of the residents are Black, Charon County has a long history of racism and discrimination. Early in the novel, the narrator notes that Charon—like much of the American South—is built on “blood and tears. Violence and mayhem. Love and hate” (2). Titus has a complicated, often fraught relationship with the county. Although he considers Charon home, he also repeatedly acknowledges that racism and violence are fundamental characteristics of the county.
Piney Island and Holy Rock
