Summary
Sunday comes home from work and finds Vita sitting on the front steps of Toms house, smoking. The two start talking, and Sunday tells Vita about how though she did not plan to have Dolly, she loved Dolly from the moment she was born. Vita seems particularly interested in, and discomposed by, this point. Sunday's labor was extremely difficult because the doctors did not consult her on any of their decisions because they did not consider her a fit mother. The King was not there either, as his mother told him that labors take a very long time, and it was not worthwhile to be there. Sunday continues to tell Vita about how her own parents were very clear with Sunday and her sister Dolores that they did not initially want children, and that the two girls were accidents.
