Garden of Musée Rodin, in Paris
The novel opens with Stephen and Armand visiting in this garden. It is the same garden to which Stephen took Armand when Armand was still a child, visiting with Stephen in Paris. It is the place they love best in Paris and the place that Armand had wanted to propose to Reine-Marie until his godfather steered him to a more romantic location rather than a bench in front of a statue representing the Gates of Hell.
