Summary
This section begins with a flashback to Bicho Raro in 1944. This was the last time darkness came upon a Soria who interfered after performing the miracle. A German prisoner of war from a nearby work camp walked to Bicho Raro one day. He held a baby in his arms and both were freezing cold from the long walk to the Sorias. The Saint at that time, Daniel’s father Benjamin, decided to perform a miracle for the German man. However, without knowing it, this also performed a miracle on the baby and was defined as interfering in someone’s journey to rid themselves of darkness. Benjamin’s darkness immediately came upon him. He started turning to wood. His wife, who was pregnant with Daniel at the time, told Benjamin that she would love him no matter what.
