Summary
The next chapter is titled “Andrew.” The woman, whose name is Henri, only keeps the gun on them until Andrew lowers his rifle. When she begins to cough, she assures them she is not sick. She says it is smoker's cough. She asks a few questions, says it is not safe outside after sundown, and insists they come home with her. Her house has a high fence, the gate secured with a padlock. Andrew and Jamie have a whispered conversation about whether she might kill them. She brings them glasses of water, then pours a little from each glass into her glass and drinks it, proving it is not poisoned. She has heard rumors of foreign aid but does not believe it because of the state of government offices – including the foreign embassies – in Washington DC. Henri has a small garden, rain barrels...
