Chapter 16 Summary
Scarpetta and Marino are called to Quantico to talk with Wesley. Wesley tells them that the man in the bookstore is Steven Spurrier. Spurrier is the son of a successful real estate broker. Spurrier's father died when he was young and his mother died several years later of cancer. Spurrier was in the Navy for a short time, but was giving a discharge during his mother's illness. Spurrier then inherited a great deal of his father's money, presumably sharing it with his brother who now lives in Texas. Spurrier owns the bookstore and has owned it since before Jill and Elizabeth were killed. Wesley tells Scarpetta and Marino that he believes this is their man and has had him placed under surveillance.
