Summary

In Chapter 26, the narrator and Sasha flew to Moldova. Sasha had purchased the tickets “on a whim and wanted [the narrator] to come with her” (185). She had “unfinished business” there, but did not offer the specifics (185). The narrator felt important “traveling with Sasha” (185).

While out together in Kishinev, however, the two had to conceal their relationship. The city was not accepting of homosexuality, although it had been decriminalized (186).

In the middle of the night, the couple drank tea and watched television together. The narrator was overwhelmed by her desire for Sasha. They commented on the show, deciding which characters they would be. The narrator felt like the singer, the sensitive one, but did not say. Sasha thought the singer was the type who felt too deeply and would not live long.

Sasha revealed that since coming to Moldova, she felt her psychic capabilities...
