Summary

In Chapter 17, after New Year’s, the narrator went to Salvation to sell and “because [she] was lonely” (113). The bartender asked about Debbie. The narrator said she had disappeared, but it was just like her. Worried, the bartender gave her the number for a private investigator. After a woozy night, the narrator returned home and researched curing addictions to other people (116).

In Chapter 18, a woman who introduced herself as Sasha appeared at “the reception desk” and greeted the narrator as if she knew her (117). She insisted she was the narrator’s amulet and was there to help (118).

The narrator met up with Sasha at Echo Park Lake afterwards. Sasha explained she was a psychic and knew the narrator’s “past lives and future incarnations” (119). The narrator was moved by her stories and “excited Sasha wanted to be [her] friend” (120).
