Summary
In Chapter 8, Misbah met her prospective husband, whose nervousness endeared him to her. Toufiq hinted at misgivings about having children, because his mother had been a bad parent. In Chapter 9, Ashlee’s presence at Misbah’s funeral adds to Salahudin’s stress levels, but Noor helps him to get through the ceremony. Misbah’s obnoxious brother and nephew arrive in time for the sunset prayer, and Toufiq is embarrassingly drunk. Sal receives an alarming phone call from debt collectors. He walks Noor home, and they repair their friendship. In Chapter 10, Riaz taunts Noor about the funeral, disparaging Misbah and mocking her faith.
