Summary
The family all gather at Nic and Elf’s apartment. Yoli and Nora are still in their tennis clothes. Will retreats to the bathroom to cry in peace. Nic explains that after he and Elf had lunch she sent him to the library. When he came back with the books Elf was gone. He thought it was safe to leave her alone because she had asked for books. While they talk, Elf’s birthday cake is delivered and the family eats it. Nic mentions that Elf wrote a book while she was in Italy last August about saying goodbye. The family continues to talk about Elf’s life, her style and her habit of empathizing with losers. They learn that Elf stepped in front of a train just like her father.
