Andrea Bern
39-years old, Andrea Bern is a single woman struggling to find a place in a world that has no definition for her. Throughout the early part of the book, Andrea struggles against her desires to remain single. She does not need intimacy, and is usually condemned by the people around her for remaining single despite her age. Whenever she does make an attempt at a relationship, she is usually misunderstood and has to deal with the pain of being ostracized and judged for being the person she is. In the first chapter, Andrea is revealed to be an individualist who does not like being compared to other people, especially a character in a book that everyone thinks could be her.
