Margot
Margot grows up in Wakarusa. She lives right across the street from her best friend, January Jacobs. Her mother and father are distant and abusive, so she spends a lot of time at January’s house or at her beloved Uncle Luke’s house. When January is murdered in the middle of the night one summer, Margot is traumatized. She always imagines a scary man standing outside in the street and deliberating about which girl in which house to attack. This inspires her to become an investigative reporter when she grows up.
She and her parents leave Wakarusa when she is 11, and she never returns except for daytrips to see Uncle Luke. As an adult, she lives alone in Indianapolis and works the crime beat for the newspaper IndyNow.
