Summary
In “Chapter Nine: Krissy, 1994,” Krissy told Townsend again about her theory that a man from one of January’s dance competitions had taken her. The police found the body of a girl. They took Billy to the morgue to identify the body and he did. Krissy thought about how she had gone to Billy at the end of the summer after graduation because she needed money for an abortion. However, he had not understood what she meant, and he offered to marry her instead. Krissy realized this would make her impoverished life much better. She decided to say yes, and she promised herself that she would keep the abortion and another unrevealed secret from Billy forever. The detectives took Billy and Krissy home to gather their things before taking them to a hotel. Krissy snapped at the officers and told them to leave...
