Summary
In Part 2, Chapter 12, the narrator worries that Harris will know she spent the past two and half weeks “hidden out thirty minutes away,” but assures herself he will not guess what she was up to (139). Back home, she stands in the quiet house, dreading Harris and Sam’s return, but is happy to see Sam when they get back.
The narrator spends the following days in a daze. She performs her domestic duties, but cannot return to work. Desperate to talk to Davey, she returns to Monrovia, steals the canvas chair from her motel room, and spray paints Call Me on it, propping it outside Hertz. She calls Jordi afterwards, who tells her to get the chair. The narrator collects the chair and leaves it in the park near her house, convinced it will be gone the next day.
