Summary
In Chapter 13, “Clap Happy” (101), Porter had invited Rachel to her farm to introduce her to her goats. The narration reflects on Porter’s reasons for abandoning her friendship with Rachel. She wondered if it had to do with them both having had a crush on Jeremy in high school. When it turned out that Jeremy liked Porter, he had become her focus in life. She now felt that this might be why her friendship with Rachel had suffered, but she also still felt regret for not marrying Jeremy. Porter had continued to have sex with Jeremy after he was married to another woman. Before the chapter ends, the narration returns to the present moment, where Rachel was asking Porter if she could use the bathroom.
