Chapters 18 - 19 Summary
That night, Lucifer and Sir Jasper discuss how to best keep Phyllida safe and free from stress. Lucifer suggests that she should stay with him as a guest at the manor. Of course Miss Sweetie, her simple governess, would accompany her to avoid a scandal. Jasper agrees that this would be best, and Phyllida is moved to the Manor.
That night, Phyllida comes to Lucifer and announces that she wants to sleep with him. They make love, and she spends the night in his bed. Lucifer tells her that he loves her, and asks if she loves him. She replies that she doesn't know what love is.
Lucifer heads to the burned cottage for clues. The hoofprints that the killer's mount has left this time are clear. Its markings are Thompson's work. Better yet, a shoe is about to come off...
