The Pastures (Schuyler Mansion)
The Pastures is the place where Eliza and Alex first meet. Although Eliza is furious with him for delivering the court-martial to her father, they share their first dance together in the house. At the end of the novel, the couple returns here for their wedding, and they spend their honeymoon at the estate.
The Saratoga Estate
The Schuyler’s Saratoga estate was seized by the British army when Philip Schuyler lost Fort Ticonderoga. The estate was later taken back, but not before the British burned it to the ground. The loss of crops is the main source of the Schuyler’s financial problems. The loss compels Catherine Schuyler to demand that Eliza marry Henry Livingston.
