Summary

In Chapter 7, narrated by Palmer, Palmer was frustrated when he saw that the sword he had been working on for so long had developed a crack. He blamed the crack on Josie and the fact he had been spending so much time thinking about her. He admitted to himself that he was jealous of Chef Anton and worried that Josie would fall in love with him. He planned to follow Steve’s example when he had been courting Angie and keep in touch with Josie so she would not forget him. Later, Josie cooked dinner at Jack’s cabin and invited Palmer to eat with them. As Palmer walked her to the lodge after the meal, Josie told him that he wanted them to stay in touch after she went back to Seattle. She added that she would miss him terribly.
