Sherif Helal
Sherif Helal is an Arab Canadian of Palestinian descent, who was born in Kuwait and lived there with his family until they eventually moved to Cairo, Egypt and then Halifax, Canada. He is introduced in the opening chapter of the book as a young man who actively watches Al-Jazeera with his family and the greater Arab community in Halifax, and who later became inspired by the injustices he saw happening to Arabs (as reported by Al-Jazeera), prompting him to take up political activism in his community through various Arabic societies. He believes that Al-Jazeera is much more reliable than news networks such as CNN which report from the West and lack the same sensibility to Arab issues as Al-Jazeera does.
