The uniqueness of the Leopard People’s powers encourages embracing one’s individuality and the quirks that make them different from others. Many of the main characters have something that is initially seen as a hindrance, but later becomes one of their biggest strengths.
Sunny’s albinism is highly unusual for both Lambs and Leopard People and it is something that she initially feels very bad about. Not because she hates how she looks, but because other people constantly make fun of her, referring to her as a ghost or a white person. Even when she begins interacting with other Leopard People, Sunny deals with bullies like Ibou who says, “Hey Godwin, who said ghosts could play?” (256).
