Sunny Nwazue

Sunny Nwazue is the main character of the novel and the one the narrator focuses on. As a 12-year-old American born Nigerian, Sunny feels extremely out of place, especially with her albinism. She struggles to find any sense of belonging before she learns that her uniqueness is actually linked to her unique powers as a Leopard Person. Sunny is a very kind person who tries to protect her friends, but is clearly overwhelmed by the Leopard culture. However, this does not stop her from pursuing knowledge in any way she can, especially as she and her friends are tasked with stopping the Black Hat. Ultimately, it is Sunny’s courage that allows her to confront and send away the evil Ekwensu and earn Sugar Cream’s respect.
