Chapters 7-9 Summary
Em returns home, bearing a huge bag of gifts for Christmas that she can now afford, due to Nikki's generous salaries and enormous bank account. She tries to convince her mother to let Frida go to cheerleading camp, but her mother stands firm, wanting them to have a family Christmas in Florida with their grandmother. Em is sure that this apartment is also bugged, and uses a device she's purchased to confirm this, though she doesn't share it with her family. She returns to the conversation to realize that she is not invited to spend Christmas with their grandmother, because the grandmother necessarily thinks that Em has died. Distraught, Em runs outside into the snow and cries beneath her sunglasses, even though it is night. Suddenly, however, Christopher approaches her.
