Summary
Chapter 29 begins with the streets full of crowds for Holi, with people spraying colors everywhere. Anjali thinks about the former holidays, when she and Irfaan would spray everyone with color - especially Suman. She thinks Irfaan did not mind the Hindu holiday back then. Despite the holiday, Anjali is depressed thinking of Mohan gone, Paro without a school to attend, her mother in prison, and Irfaan no longer her friend. The lawyers do not know how to get Ma out of jail, and Anjali has no idea how to get the Dalit children into school with their school destroyed. The animals have slowly returned to her area but she still has not seen a peacock.
Chachaji walks out and makes some nasty comments to Anjali, prompting her to leave and walk down the street. She looks for peacock feathers but does not find...
