Chapters 91- 100 Summary
The beginning of the book relates how Bertha is killed and Una's baby dies after one day of life. Susan, the escaped slave, helps her and stays with her until she is better.
In chapter ninety-two, Susan says she doesn't know what state she was born in. Susan has a deep belief in God and tells her story the night before she crosses the Ohio River to freedom.
Una stops to check the root cellar for supplies on her way back to the house in chapter ninety-three. Thieves have taken most of the supplies. Una calculates how to stretch the remaining supplies until spring when she can travel to Nantucket. She spends the time reading and thinking.
In chapter ninety-four, one of the bounty hunters returns. He says he bought a donkey with the bounty money and produces the silver thimble...
