Part 2, Polishing Bones Summary
Miami, Florida. July, 1991. Reina asks Constancia about their mother. Reina wants to know if Constancia remembers a pouch with a bone in it that their mother used to carry with her. Their mother promised to give it to Reina when she grew up. Reina looked for the bone after Blanca's death, but could not find it. Constancia answers that she knows nothing about a bone. Mama never showed her anything like that.
Reina tells Constancia about the man that she met at their mother's grave many years ago. He was tall with flawless black skin. He told Constancia she was beautiful and called her "his daughter." Though she had returned to the grave often, she never saw the man again. Constancia does not respond.
Reina tells her sister that their father looked too good after their mother...
