Summary
In "Human Development," a few years after graduating from Stanford, Anthony attended "a Memorial Day barbecue" with former classmates (177). Anthony felt discouraged. He was the only one of his friends "not working in tech" (177). Instead, he was preparing to teach a Human Development class for "the upcoming school year" (179). Unsure about the purpose of the course, he had decided to reinvent the syllabus and teach Moby-Dick.
Detached from the party, Anthony texted his twin sister who had recently moved from the Bay Area to New York City. Then he opened up Grindr, and "messaged ten profiles of color in a row" (180).
