Fables 76-80 Summary
(76) "The House-ferret and Aphrodite" A house-ferret falls in love with a man and begs Aphrodite to change her into a girl. Aphrodite does, and the ferret and man get married. Aphrodite wants to see if the girl's nature has changed with her appearance. She releases a mouse in the wedding chamber, and the girl, true to her house-ferret nature, chases it. Aphrodite changes the girl back into a ferret. (77) "The House-ferret and the File" A house-ferret slips into a blacksmith's workshop and licks a file. Her tongue bleeds as she delights in thinking she is extracting something from the iron. She loses her tongue as a result. (78) "The Old Man and Death" An old man has a long journey ahead of him. He lays down his burden and prays for Death to come to him. Death asks why he was summoned...
