Summary
In Chapter 10, Adèle goes to a dinner party with Richard at Xavier’s house. Xavier is a famous and brilliant surgeon that lives in a mansion with his wife, Sophie. Adèle feels invisible and rudderless without sex to drive and guide her. She follows Xavier to the bathroom and makes a pass at him, but he ignores her. At the table, she puts her hand on his knee and he moves away from her. She becomes obsessed with him and fixates on the idea of sleeping with him. Richard tells everyone that they are moving to the country and they go home alone together.
