Summary
In Chapter 1, the omniscient narrator tells us that Adèle is trying to manage her sex addiction. For the past week, she had kept herself occupied with her work and with running. She has not consumed any alcohol. But on her way to work she looks at her phone and sees the first contact in her phone, Adam. She gets off the train and goes to his apartment and has sex with him.
In Chapter 2, Adèle arrives at the newspaper she works at several hours late. She always wanted to be an actress, or to be married to a very wealthy man. Instead, she had married Richard, a doctor.
