Summary
Chapter six begins with Norah describing the carefree lives of Katherine and Pleasance in the 1940s. The two lived together in Notting Hill. Pleasance worked in a box office, while Katherine worked as a secretary for George Clark, nicknamed Nobby, who was a theatre impresario. Norah reports that Katherine once said that Pleasance was her first true love.
Norah then tells the story of Katherine's audition for the role of Talitha in a play called The Awoken. She is given the role. Although the part consisted of few lines, the play was a success, and Katherine experienced her first dose of fame. Her stardom generated from this first major role is measured by a rejection from Orson Welles.
