Summary
In "2.41," Henry joins the other "day laborers" outside "the contractors' entrance of Home Depot" (171). While waiting for an assignment, he drinks several sugary cups of coffee to quell his hunger. Henry accepts a half day job ripping out a driveway (174). He will have just enough time to complete the job and get to the interview.
In "$12.22," Henry asks another worker, Jorge, to borrow some money for gas. He then gives Jorge a ride to the job site. They talk haltingly about their families. Henry realizes he does not have any recent pictures of Junior. He thinks about their difficult life over the past months. At the site, the hard work clears Henry's mind. When they finish, Henry has very little time to get to the interview. He gives Jorge his number and tells him to pick up his share of the payment and call...
