April is the protagonist of An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. She is a 23 year old woman from California who moved to New York City to attend art school where she studied graphic design. April shares an apartment with her roommate / girlfriend, Maya, but it is evident that April has insecurities that are buried deep within her, and this is detrimental to all of her relationships. Although April is a seemingly average young woman, her life changes completely when she is the first to come in contact with the “Carls,” an alien race whose statues have taken up sidewalks in 64 cities across the world.
