Chapters 3 and 4 Summary

Maybelline, who goes by Maybe, is named after her mother's favorite makeup brand. Maybe meets her best friend, Ted, so they can walk to school together. She first met Ted when they were freshmen in high school. The Fantastic Five, which are the most popular girls in school, were picking on Maybe and Ted scared them away. Ted and Maybe have been friends ever since.

The Fantastic Five are all pageant girls and they all attend Chessy's Charm School and use Chessy's beauty pageant consulting services. Maybe tells Ted that Chessy thinks Maybe is Goth. Maybe works in the library at school first period. When she arrives, she runs into a fellow student that works with her, Hollywood. He tells her he got accepted to the University of Southern California film school. He's always filming Maybe and Ted.
