Chapter 9 Summary

When Nick wakes up in his tent, he sees an owl and a winged dog staring at him. He thinks he must still be dreaming. The winged dog is telling the owl that Nick must have a sliver from one of the hemispheres in him, which is giving Nick power. Additionally, the dog says the Destroyer is using Nick as an avatar, a mouthpiece.

When Nick reaches out and touches the dog's nose, Nick realizes he is not dreaming. Lirael and Dog urge Nick to get dressed. The three then start their trek back to where Sam is waiting for them. As they are trying to escape, some of the Dead see them. Unsure of what Lirael is, they hang back, but some start to charge them.
