Chapter 2 Summary

It takes an hour for them to dress in their battle gear before they head out. One of the items Lirael packs is her magic mirror, which allows her to look into the past. Lirael also packs the bell-bandolier, which is seven bells that bears the marks both of Charter and Free Magic.

Sam shows Lirael the message he has written to his parents to be delivered by hawk. Before they leave the house, Mogget jumps into the pack on Sam's back and tells them to wake him if the danger ever appears or he might get wet. As Lirael looks back, she sees the spirits of the house pressed up against the windows as if they are saying goodbye because they will never see her again.
