The Nature and Qualities of Connection
In each of the memoirs in this collection, and within each fragmented line of memory, insight, or narrative within each memoir, the author enacts a search for some kind of connection – with her-self, with others, and with her history. In some cases, she is searching for the meaning of connections that already exist. For example, she strives to identify and understand the layers of connection between aspects of herself that she knows and recognizes, and the circumstances in her life that shaped them. At the same time, she is both searching for meaningful connections with other people (parents, other family members, lovers), and investigating the reasons why the search is so important, why connections work, and why connections do not.
