Armand Gamache
Armand Gamache is the head of homicide for the Sûreté du Québec. He is depicted at several different points in his life. The majority portion of the story takes place later in Gamache’s life. He is terrorized by Fleming, a serial killer whom he promised to let out of jail if he helped with an investigation, but reneges on his promise at the last minute. Gamache does not regret that decision, but he fears Fleming coming after him because Fleming has been the only person who has been able to get into Gamache’s mind and manipulate it. Ultimately, Gamache is able to outthink Fleming and save his family. He kills Fleming by hitting him in the head with a brick.
