Summary

In Chapter 34, when Harriet woke, she discovered she was tied up in the forest and that darkness was falling. As she lost consciousness, she saw something that looked like a body on the ground near her. She called out for Sam.

Beauvoir was shocked when he learned that McNee, one of Fleming’s victims, had been the last person to wear the ring that had been dropped in Gamache’s basement.

Gamache and Beauvoir decided to arrest Godin and Claude because there was suspicion that one of them might be Fleming. Godin and Claude were nowhere to be found. Robert, however, was inside the church. He did not move when Gamache called his name. When Gamache investigated, he saw the minister had been hit in the head and was bleeding heavily. Gamache drove him to the hospital.
