Summary
In Chapter 31, Reine-Marie and Amelia were at the Norwich Castle Museum. They had their phones off as they had been instructed. Cecil Clarke, the head docent, showed them The Paston Treasure. His description fits the description of Fleming given earlier. He told Reine-Marie he had arrived at Norwich only a year or so before, that he was a retired engineer.
Back in Three Pines, Gamache met with Moel to discuss what had almost happened at the prison. He explained to her that Fleming had been let go and that he was sending threatening messages to Gamache through the painting.
Gamache confirmed he had not been one of the cops who originally sent Fleming to jail, but had dealt with him later. Years prior, Gamache had promised to let Fleming go in exchange for his help in a case. At the last minute, Gamache...
