Structure
This book is divided into three major parts, each of which is subdivided into chapters. The first section is presents a brief history of international relations, U.S. foreign policy, and world order. It begins in 1648 with the Peace of Westphalia and runs through the War on Terror. Parts II and III are focused on the current state of world order. Part II explores that challenges facing the U.S.-created world order, dividing those challenges into chapters on great power relations, international institutions, and region-specific situations. Part III presents solutions to those problems. Its chapters correspond to those of Part III, allowing the reader to quickly compare foreign policy questions with Haass’s proposed answers.
