Summary
After establishing himself as a writer, Eddy was invited “to watch a film shoot” where the actress Catherine Deneuve was presenting (87). Following the event, Eddy approached Catherine and searched for something to say. He finally told her about Monique, her “transformation,” “arrival in Paris,” and life with her new partner (88). He mentioned that Monique lived in the same neighborhood as Catherine. Catherine promised to visit Monique someday.
Shortly thereafter, Monique called Eddy to say she had shared a cigarette with Catherine. Eddy was shocked that Catherine had kept her promise. Monique was thrilled by the experience. She told Eddy she had hoped everyone had noticed with whom she was smoking.
